Fall 2017 Gamma-Tau Chapter Update

The latest from the Gamma-Tau Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity:

Brothers,

Gamma-Tau's annual fall philanthropy, Beachapalooza, has continued to grow into one of the best attended Greek events in Boulder. On a sunny Friday afternoon, 1,000 guests danced to Party Favor and splashed in the 50' x 25' pool the chapter built in the parking lot. Headlines for online reviews of this alcohol-free philanthropy concert have referred to it as the “most epic college party ever”, and the official videos have gotten over 90,000 views each in the last two years. The event raised $1,000 for charity. To kick off the first weekend of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the chapter hosted all nine sororities at a volleyball tournament on the chapter’s newly renovated sand volleyball court, raising $5,000 for the Susan G. Komen foundation.

More than 500 men visited the Castle for Rush this fall semester. 38 of the most qualified men were extended bids, all of whom accepted. This pledge class will be the first to experience the next iteration of improvements to the pledge education program, lead by Grand Master of Ceremonies Russell Leonard (‘15) and Pledge Education Chairman Evan Clark (‘15). Those improvements are centered around new professional quality risk reduction courses facilitated by resources from CU Boulder. The topics include sex assault bystander training, alcohol and substance abuse awareness, community living “on the Hill”, and CPR certification. Four years from now, all members will have completed these courses which will increase awareness and reduce the risk of potential incidents involving the chapter.

Over the summer, two Gamma-Tau brothers were honored at 71st Grand Conclave in Las Vegas. Brother Brock Dietrich (‘14) was awarded the Outstanding Grand Master of Ceremonies, for his work on the Executive Committee and for building a culture of accountability in the pledge education program. Brother Jonathan Ryder Schiefele (‘15) was awarded Outstanding Grand Master for his leadership in the chapter and on campus. He was recently elected as Representative At Large on Student Government. His focus is to increase the frequency of community integrated philanthropies and to improve access to risk management education to all student groups, including Greek organizations.

The members of the Gamma-Tau Chapter are excited to build on their momentum, and look forward to continued success for the remainder of the school year. Alumni are encouraged to visit the chapter’s relaunched website, cukappasigma.org/alumni, to update their contact information to receive news and details on upcoming events from the chapter.
