The Kappa Sigma Fraternity, one of the most historic Fraternities at the University of Colorado, is returning to the University this October and is seeking outstanding current or potential student leaders to be founding fathers of the new colony. Kappa Sigma staff members will be on campus from October 11-21 to meet with interested students about the opportunity to join the colony. Colorado Rockies Chairman and CEO and Kappa Sigma alumnus Charles Monfort noted that “I am looking forward to meeting up with the new Kappa Sigma’s at the University of Colorado as they get their legacy off to a great start and in the right direction. Kappa Sigma Fraternity for me was life changing…it helped me to come into my own and become an adult.” “We, along with our 1,800-plus alumni from the former chapter, are very excited about our return to the University of Colorado” said Mitchell B. Wilson, Executive Director of Kappa Sigma. “Joining Kappa Sigma at Colorado gives students the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop a legacy of Fraternity excellence on campus. We are seeking men with high academic goals, leadership qualities, who are service oriented and who are gentlemen. We will again be the top Fraternity at the University of Colorado” added Wilson. The Kappa Sigma Chapter at the University of Colorado was originally founded in 1916. Kappa Sigma left Colorado in 2001 after the Fraternity determined that the then-members of the chapter no longer represented the values of the Fraternity. “We are recruiting men who are interested in our values of scholarship, fellowship, leadership and service and who wish to make a positive contribution to the Greek community” said Wilson. The men of the colony will once again occupy the Chapter’s historic residence on campus sometime after the colony is chartered. The house is widely held as one of the best locations on campus and one of the best fraternity chapter houses in the Fraternity. “The response has been tremendous” said Kevin Madsen, Area Recruitment Manager for Kappa Sigma and the lead staff member for the colonization. “After only a few days of recruiting, we have over 50 men who are interested in joining and this should be our biggest colonization in many years. Students from across campus are interested in the opportunity to help create what is certain to become the best Fraternity on campus once again.” Kappa Sigma has a number of notable alumni from the Chapter and mountain west/midwest region including actor/director Robert Redford, Air Force Academy football coach Fisher DeBerry former Senator and Presidential Candidate Robert Dole. Colorado Rockies owner Charles Monfort has also been involved in various charity and teambuilding efforts with the Fraternity over the past few years. Other Kappa Sigma alumni include Singer/Songwriter Jimmy Buffett, UPS CEO Michael Eskew, Sprint CEO Gary Forsee, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and North Carolina Senator Richard Burr. Kappa Sigma has Chapters or Colonies at Denver University, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado College, Colorado State University-Pueblo and Northern Colorado. Kappa Sigma also has over 3500 alumni in Colorado including local business executives, attorneys, professors and public officials.
